Information about teak and teak care instructions
How do I care for teak furniture?
You can leave teak completely natural or treat it with teak oil. It all depends on your personal taste. Teak is extremely weather-resistant and uncomplicated to maintain.
Due to its high, natural oil content, teak is naturally very well protected. Therefore, it can be placed on terraces and even exposed to direct weather influences.
1. Just leave the teak wood as nature created it.
Teak furniture looks very elegant and attractive when it acquires a silver-gray look over time. This patina is certainly preferred by many.
The disadvantage is that unprotected teak surfaces are more susceptible to grease stains. If you happen to get a flake that won't go away with cleaning, simply use sandpaper and gently sand it away.
2. Do you always want a fresh teak look?
You can maintain a consistently fresh-looking surface by thoroughly cleaning your teak furniture once a year (with water, soapy water, and a brush or sandpaper) and then treating it with a suitable teak oil. This will give the teak a fresh look.
Advantage of the oiled surface: Grease stains and dirt can always be wiped away very easily.
If you do have a stubborn stain, use fine sandpaper to remove the stain. Then re-oil it, and your teak furniture will shine like new.
3. Oil or varnish.
Teak is often left natural or oiled because its natural oil content is high, providing the wood with sufficient protection. Varnishing is therefore unnecessary. You can find special teak oils at any hardware store, and these are also available in various colors.
Please clean thoroughly before oiling to achieve even coloring.
Apply the oil with a brush, let it work for a short time (approx. 15 minutes) and remove any excess oil with a lint-free cloth.
The effect is increased if you repeat this process 2-3 times.
DANGER: Avoid high-pressure cleaners, as these can easily fray the wood and make the surface vulnerable to corrosion and weathering.
