Information about teak and teak care instructions
How do I care for teak furniture?
Teak can be left completely natural or treated with teak oil. It all depends on personal taste. Teak is extremely weather-resistant and easy to maintain. Due to its high, natural oil content, teak is naturally very well protected. Therefore, it can also be placed on patios and even exposed to direct weather influences.
1. Just leave the teak wood as nature created it.
Teak furniture looks very elegant and attractive when it acquires a silver-gray look over time. This patina is certainly preferred by many. The disadvantage is that unprotected teak surfaces are more susceptible to grease stains. If you happen to get a flake that won't go away with cleaning, simply use sandpaper and gently sand the stain away.
2. Do you always want a fresh teak look?
You can maintain a consistently fresh-looking surface by thoroughly cleaning your teak furniture once a year (with water, soapy water, and a brush or sandpaper) and then treating it with a suitable teak oil. This will give the teak a fresh look. The advantage of the oiled surface: grease stains and dirt can always be easily wiped away. If you do have a stubborn stain, use fine sandpaper to remove the stain. Then re-oil it, and your teak furniture will shine like new.
3. Oil or varnish.
Teak is left natural or oiled because its natural oil content is high and the wood is already well protected. Therefore, varnishing is not necessary. You can find special teak oils at any hardware store, and these are also available in various colors. Please clean thoroughly before oiling to ensure an even color. Apply the oil with a brush, let it work for a short time (about 15 minutes), and remove any excess oil with a lint-free cloth. The effect is increased if you repeat this process 2-3 times.
